Prof. Dr Manfred Tetz, MD

Prof. Dr Manfred Tetz is a renowned ophthalmologist, whose expertise and accomplishments in the field make him a leading figure in eye health. The Spreebogen Eye Health Clinic that he founded has received seven annual awards from Focus magazine since opening in 2003, in recognition of its outstanding care in refractive and cataract surgeries, amongst other categories. He has conducted more than 120,000 eye operations so far, attesting to the sheer skill of his surgical abilities. He speaks German and English.

Dr Tetz’s Professional Experience

Over his 40-year career, Dr Tetz has been a dedicated researcher as well as practitioner: after two years abroad at two research centres in the USA, he was active at Heidelberg University, progressing from assistant right to head of the ophthalmological laboratory in just five years. Here, he also established a new department for cataract and anterior segment surgery.

He then went on to attain full professorship at the equally prestigious Humboldt University in Berlin. Shortly after, he founded the Spreebogen Eye Clinic and the Berlin Eye Research Institute, which has innovated methods of eye treatment on a global scale. To date, he has given over a thousand lectures, some internationally. He also co-edits a number of ophthalmological journals and has published hundreds of his own scientific writings.

Recognition and Memberships

Adding to his professional experience, Dr Tetz is also an active member of multiple boards, including the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He also holds membership to the German Ophthalmological Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, amongst others.
